The
Agency for
Sustainable Systems in
Science and Technology
We are now entering our 10th
year as an organization and are looking to make it our best year ever.
Over the past 10 years, we have:
- sought funding for many local non-profit
organizations including funding that provides Arcata, California
with their “Green Bike” program.
- sought to provide infrastructure analysis to
communities in the eastern part of Russia, to provide a
sustainable transportation system for delivery of food and medications
to elderly individuals, to develop vacant land as community park and
garden space, and to evaluate and expand community recycling
programs.
- offered scholarships to students interested in
sustainable community development.
- sought to work with other local and international
organizations to better prepare communities for the continuing
globalization that have brought such dramatic change to the United States
and the rest of the world.
ASSIST is presently planning
for long-term infrastructure development projects to help provide clean water
to those impacted by the recent tragedies in Asia and Africa. With the help of the United States Agency
for International Development, the United Nations Development Program, and
Water Aid, a British non-profit organization dedicated to providing
safe-drinking water to all the world’s population, ASSIST aims to
change the way water flow.
The Agency for Sustainable
Systems in Science and Technology (ASSIST) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt
organization formed in 1995 and incorporated in 1996. ASSIST is dedicated to
supporting initiatives for research and education in community enhancement
and socially, economically and ecologically appropriate technologies. Based
in Arcata, California, ASSIST is involved with
programs that help connect people in Humboldt County (CA) and around the
world with resources to make available the basic necessities of life,
including food, water, sanitation, shelter, education and health care. To
achieve this goal, ASSIST encourages participation from the local to
international level by providing educational resources, expertise in
appropriate technologies, and assistance in the implementation of projects
related to grassroots community development.
