Rubbermaid Panniers

I have been using Rubbermaid® containers for 10 years now. The same set. These look like minature rectangular garbage cans with lids. They don't stick out as far as oyster buckets. They carry one and a half 12 packs with space for ice on each side or a bag of groceries plus some extra on each side. They are stackable, water proof, and don't squash your hat.

They work great on a recumbent but might offer some heel interferance on a diamond frame.

Just butcher some hooks off of the old paniers you can't stand any more cause they don't carry much and flap in the spokes.

Reinforce them on the inside with aluminum bar stock bent to match the curve of the bucket. I also stole the reflectors of my old flappy panniers.

On the IHPVA [trikes] email list, Greg B. reports where to find these if you live in the US in this copy of his email posting. This info ought to be accurate as of March 23rd 2002. Hopefully Kmart won't change all this info soon.

Sorry, I lost the original poster's post, so am having to answer group wide. Go Back to K-Mart, to the Housewares (kitchen stuff) department. In the aisle with the waste baskets there SHOULD be something called Rubbermaid Roughneck All Purpose Canisters. They are 8 US gallons; pretty much right at 19 inches tall, the top is pretty close to 15"x10.5" and they taper down to about 12"x8" at the bottom. The ones that we have are an opaque-ish white with a "Blue Mist" lid. They should be about $8.09 unless you can catch them on sale. If you can't find them, ask to talk to the department manager or one of the assistant managers and have them order (may have to raincheck order them) them. The UPC is 0-71691-15363-4 and the Mops#/K-Code is 0-351380-11-8 Department 11 Housewares Category 64 Wastebaskets I'm not completely sure that they are the same as what were in the pics, but am thinking so. Certainly seem about the right size next to a 20" wheel.

From Greg's discription of the buckets measure's up to mine. A friend of mine bought one recently to put on the back of his BikeE and it was the color Greg describe's.
